Family Portraits

Family portraits are one of the most valuable documents one can have. We are all born belonging to a family, tribe, race, group, etc. of some kind. Although each has a unique identity and circumstance, we all came into this world with love and care from the people around us. Belonging to a family or group is truly a treasure and a privilege one can have.

I love family portraits. Being able to document families through photography is an amazing privilege I have. Seeing authentic smiles and expressions of love and care in a family setting is an absolute pleasure of mine. I am enthused to capture these sacred moments. Moments in time that as time goes by, become the one greatest memories and possessions a person or a family can have.

Burr Family during their late winter session. The whole session was taken outdoors with these two cute girls braving the cold! I love to capture uncontrived and candid moments. These types of family photographs are popular among most clients.

A little Q&A:

How do I take on this sacred endeavor?

Through booking online and setting up the best date and time that works for the family. I, as the photographer, as well the the family will be able to prepare ourselves for this occasion. I meet the family in their house or in my studio for a consultation. During the consultation, we would talk about matters such as the location of the photo session, the date and time, pricing, and other important things. As the day for the photo session approaches, I keep in touch with the family to make sure that they are all good and ready. The day of the photo session, we would go the place or setting the family has requested to be have their portraits taken. It could be anywhere! After the photo session, I organize and prepare the images for delivery through package delivery by myself.

How long does a family portrait session go for?

Family portraits usually take an hour or two to do it right! But as each family is unique and the locations differ, I make sure to accommodate the family’s needs and wishes.

How much do you charge?

Family portraits start from $300 for the whole session. Then the family can choose to avail the photographs through products such as an album, prints on photo paper or canvas, wall portraits, and even digital copies of the session.

What type clothing should we wear?

What to wear for the photo session is mostly based in the family’s preference. While we discuss the details of this in consultation, here are some guidelines for an ideal family portrait attire:

  1. One without logos or writings that can be distracting.

  2. Clothing that is comfortable, clean, and weather/climate appropriate.

  3. Avoid clothes that have bright and saturated colors such as neon colors.

  4. White shirt, pants or dress is fine but a darker or less brighter value is better.

  5. Avoid clothes that are exactly the same in color. Different shades of a particular color is better. i.e., Blue, dark blue, sky blue. They can even be complimentary colors! Blues can go with yellow or orange.

  6. Wear something that you and your family will be proud of. Something that expression who you are a person and as a family. Your best selves.

While these are just some of the most common questions for a family portrait, I take into account the unique needs and wishes of each family I photograph. Whether the portraits are taken in a studio, home, or outdoor locations, each family is treated with care and consideration; making sure that this moment is as fun and memorable as it should be.
